Sustaining the Craft Industry in Bolgatanga (SUSCRIB) project aims at removing bottlenecks that have thwarted the contribution of the craft sector and Ghana at large towards poverty reduction and development of the Upper East Region. The Upper East Region of Ghana, which is the focus area of this project can be described as the craft capital of Ghana. The region can boast of a variety of craft works such as straw baskets popularly called Bolga Baskets, smock, pottery, leather products, among others. The project which is in its second phase will run until mid - 2023. Below is the highlights of (SUSCRIB). The project:

  • Supported 50 young women to start craft entrepreneurial businesses through an incubation programme called "ISOLVE"

  • Supported Baskets weavers to diversify their raw material sources by cultivating vertiver grass and researching into other materials for weaving.

  • Reduced the impact of craft work on the environment by introducing to project participants safe waste disposal methods and energy saving stoves.

  • Supports in the organization of the Bolgatanga International Craft and Arts Fair (BICAF)

  • SUSCRI is generously supported by the following partners:
